The existing premises in Thirlestane Road was established as a dental practice in 1972. Like many practices in Edinburgh the property is essentially an attractive 3 bedroom flat which has been converted into 3 surgeries with a large waiting room. This arrangement worked satisfactorily for many years but with an increased utilisation of the surgeries since the arrival of Stephen Martin and more recently Krish Bhatia , together with our hygienist Debbie Dewar we have found space a little "tighter" than before.
An additional factor has been the introduction of new legislation regarding the requirement for a separate and much larger area for instrument sterilization or "localised decontamination units". We have always been well ahead of most practices in this area being one of the first in Scotland to purchase a large vacuum autoclave (we now have 2!) however space has once again become a problem for compliance.
With this in mind we are now progressing plans to move to a purpose built surgery only 900 metres from our current position in Newbattle Terrace. The site was purchased a number of years ago but plans are now approved for the building of a new surgery on the land . No time line has been put on this project in these uncertain times but hopefully we can take these plans from the drawing board to the site in the near future. I hope you like the appearance of the building as much as us but if you have any suggestions at this stage we would be very pleased to hear from you!
