Meet the team

Stephen Martin

Stephen Martin qualified from Dundee University in 2000. Since then he has gained experience working both in practice and in a hospital setting.

Stephen has undertaken a wide variety of postgraduate study, including an MSc in Primary Dental Care at the University of Edinburgh in which he has attained the Diploma level, and is undertaking a research dissertation in order to complete the MSc. He has also completed a modular Course at Newcastle University entitled "Higher Training in Endodntics" Stephen has also enrolled in a Diploma in Endodontics at the University of Central Lancashire.

Stephen provides comprehensive routine dental care for his own patients and also accepts referrals from other Dentists for more complex Endodontic treatments. Stephen works part-time at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute as a Clinical Teacher and Lecturer.

Mr Krishnakant Bhatia

After qualifying from Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, Krish completed a range of hospital training posts within Scotland. In 2005 he was appointed as a specialist registrar in fixed and removable Prosthodontics at the Edinburgh Dental Institute. During this time he completed a masters degree in fixed and removable Prosthodontics and in 2008 achieved his Membership in Restorative Dentistry (MRD) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh specialising in Prosthodontics.

Krish is fully experienced in all aspects of conventional and implant, fixed and removable Prosthodontics. He has developed a keen interest in aesthetic full mouth rehabilitations using restorative, surgical and multidisciplinary approaches. He is interested in establishing working relationships with referring dentists that wish to develop their own skills and knowledge base to improve the quality of care to their patients.

Krish is also a senior clinical researcher for the University of Edinburgh and honorary specialist in Prosthodontics at the Edinburgh Dental Institute where he is committed to the postgraduate training of dentists from new graduates through to master’s degree students.

Debbie Dewar

I qualified in 1999 from Glasgow Dental Hospital after a 2 year course to obtain my diploma in dental hygiene.  I went to work in London after qualifying and spent 18 months working in a practice in Harley Street and a practice in Covent Garden.  I really enjoyed my experiences in London but decided to move to Edinburgh in 2001 where I worked as a tutor for the student dental hygienists.  During this time I gained my adult teaching certificate, I also worked in 2 other private practices when not at the institute.  One in Morningside drive and the other, Thirlestane Road.  I spent almost 4 years at the institute and had decided to spend my time working in the 2 dental practices.  I continued in the 2 practices until last year when I left Morningside when I went on maternity leave.  After having my little girl in June 2009 I had 9 months off and spent lots of time with my daughter.

I returned to work in April and now work at Thirlestane exclusively 2 ½ days a week which I thoroughly enjoy.

Charlie Maran

Charlie Maran qualified in 1988 from the University of Dundee and immediately left for the Eastman Dental Center in New York for a 2 year postgraduate training program . On return to the UK Charlie worked at the Dental school at Newcastle University and completed an Masters degree in Restorative Dentistry.

Charlie is a GDC registered specialist in Periodontics and is the periodontist to the department of restorative dentistry at the Edinburgh Dental Institute where he teaches twice weekly.
